Support for Voluntary, Community and Faith Groups

There is a range of options available to voluntary, community and faith (VCF) groups that need extra guidance, advice and support with running or developing their organisation.

This support is also available to residents who may want to consider setting up a new voluntary group or organisation. While the thought of creating your own group or organisation may seem like a daunting prospect there is wealth of resources available to guide you through the process.

Take a look below at the variety of support options available to both new and existing VCF groups.

National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO)

Writing a Business Plan

As a new or established community organisation you will be required to produce a business plan.

A business plan helps you to:

  • Set the objectives of your organisation
  • Record and understand problems your organisation may encounter
  • Measure the progress of your organisation

Writing a business plan can feel intimidating but there are online resources equipped to help you.

The United Kingdom government website has provided a list of top tips and templates to help you establish what you need to consider when writing a business plan.

Social Enterprise

If you are looking to create a new community group you may want to consider forming a social enterprise. A social enterprise is a business that operates for a social purpose. Whilst a social enterprise will make an income through selling goods or services all profits that are made are reinvested toward a good cause or the local community.

The short video below provides more information about social enterprises and how to create your own.

Further information can also be found on the Social Enterprise UK website. Social Enterprise UK is a nationwide organisation which provides support, guidance and resources for all social enterprises across the UK.
