National Pet Month
(Published on 15/04/2019)
April is National Pet Month, and we are using this as an opportunity to recognise some of the service animals and charities supporting people throughout the UK.
Hearing Dogs for Deaf People – offer trained dogs to people with hearing impairments. The dogs are trained to alert their owners when they hear a sound that they would otherwise miss. This includes doorbells, text messages, alarm clocks and even danger signals such as fire alarms. https://www.hearingdogs.org.uk/
Guide Dogs – provide guide dogs for people with serious visual impairments. Their highly trained dogs support you in navigating any mobility challenges you may face when out and about. https://www.guidedogs.org.uk/
Pets as Therapy - provide an animal visiting service in hospitals, hospices, nursing and care homes, special needs schools and a variety of other venues all across the UK. Their animals can provide companionship and friendship to help tackle loneliness. https://petsastherapy.org/
