Community Skills for Care Programme

There are lots of people living in Surrey who need help with their care, older people living in nursing homes, people who have come out of hospital, people with disabilities or long term illnesses are just some examples, but there aren’t enough care workers to help them so more people are needed.

Walton Bike Project was set up by Surrey Lifelong Learning Partnership and sells refurbished bikes at reduced prices whilst teaching job seekers and young people to refurbish bicycles to a high standard.

The group for adults with a learning disability which takes part in activities such as design, product assembly and selling to customers which give the experience of being part of a business. The group is supported by trained staff who work with the group at each stage of the process. The group are currently running a candle making business. A range of different styles of candles are created by the attendees who package them and sell them at local events.

Run by Voluntary Action Reigate and Banstead (VARB) the project support people with disabilities in a non-judgemental way and is designed to help and support anyone who faces challenges in their life into volunteering.
