Camberley Open Mind Club

Description

It’s a day centre service held on three mornings a week for people with mental health issues. Meets in Frimley Green on Tuesdays and Thursdays 10.00am -12.00pm and Friday 10.00am -1.00pm.

There are no membership charges, but there is a small charge for refreshments, lunch and local transport. Cards, games, table tennis and craft activities are available and theatre trips and other outings are organised. Transport is mainly from the Camberley and Farnborough areas.

Camberley District Open Mind Association provides support to people who are suffering from a mental illness or who have had a mental illness and find it has greatly affected their life, and who live in or around Camberley or Farnborough. It does this mainly by running a day centre known as the ‘Open Mind Club’ which started in September 1979, and has around 30 members.
The club is held in Camberley on three days each week. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided each day and a soup and sandwich lunch once a week. Most members attend once, twice or three times per week.

The association helps members get to club meetings by providing transport for those who need it (this also encourages people to get up in the morning as they know someone is fetching them). At the club, members are encouraged to take part in activities; craft materials and various games are provided, and other activities such as speakers are organised on an occasional basis.

The club arranges theatre trips, one or more outings in summer and a Christmas party.
